The Orchestra's History
The Beauchamp Sinfonietta was formed just over forty years ago to provide an orchestra of a high standard to accompany local operatic societies and choirs. Choirs it has accompanied in recent years include the Royal Leamington Spa Bach Choir, Collegium, Warwick and Kenilworth Choral Society, the Shipston Choir and the Deddington Festival Chorus.
In addition the orchestra has always presented its own concert season, when its early success was through working with local conductors such as Bryan Brown and Tony Ayres. It also benefited from working with a series of professional guest conductors, including Vilem Tausky, Adrian Leaper and Andrew Watkinson of the Endellion Quartet.
In 1975 the orchestra sought a more permanent conductor to reach higher standards and attain continuity. In April 1993 Nic Fallowfield was appointed Musical Director and Principal Conductor, and some years later, Roger Coull as Guest Conductor.
The orchestra has played with notable soloists such as Tasmin Little, (violin), Craig Ogden,(guitar), Marios Argiros,(oboe), and Ursula Leveaux,(bassoon). It has also given opportunities to young professional soloists from the local area, including Juliette Bausor,(flute), Jonathan Deakin ,(cello), Anna Bradley,(violin), and Jan Bradley,(percussion). Both conductors also play as soloist for some concerts.
The orchestra members are local instrumentalists of a high standard from all walks of life, though some may have done some professional playing or are music teachers. All share a love of playing good music to the highest possible standard.
Although primarily a chamber orchestra, with limited wind and brass sections, playing repertoire by Mozart, Haydn, Beethoven and some small scale twentieth century works, on occasion the Beauchamp Sinfonietta expands to tackle larger scale works by Brahms, Sibelius and Dvorak.
The orchestra has in the past given concerts in Rugby and Coventry as well as the popular Sunday tea concerts in Leamington's Town hall. For the current season the orchestra is giving it's Saturday evening concerts in Warwick, either the Collegiate Church of St. Mary's or in Saint Nicholas.
